Colour washing is created by using a thin or translucent 'wash' over a base colour. Ideal for a faded farmhouse look, ceilings and walls can be given a pleasing subtle finish reminiscent of limewash or distemper. Recently these outdated products have been resurrected by some 'trendy' decorators. Except in exceptional instances where genuine authentic finish has to be used for conservation and restoration work, these finishes are unsuitable for modern decorative and preservative requirements. I do not recommend them, as a period look can be obtained using superior modern products.
